Sandown councillors called to Extraordinary meeting to continue debating 49.9% council tax precept rising budget

Last updated:

Following Sandown Town Council’s budget meeting at the beginning of the month, where the town’s council tax precept was increased by 49.9 per cent, an extraordinary meeting has been called.

The meeting had seen amendments proposed by Cllrs Debbie Andre, Heather Humby and Emily Brothers rejected, but an amendment by Deputy Mayor, Cllr Alex Lightfoot approved.

However, many were left confused when there was no vote ratifying the main budget.

Incorrect process followed
Cllrs Andre, Brothers, Humby and Cllr Sue Betts have called for the Extraordinary meeting to take place on Monday and are asking members to consider a Special Motion under Standing Order 17.1.

It states that the council followed incorrect process at the budget meeting and that matters remain on the table for discussion and resolution.

Where and when
The meeting takes place at 7pm at The Heights leisure centre on Monday 13th March.

15 minutes are available at the beginning of the meeting for public questions.

Our thanks to Paul Coueslant from Sandown Hub for the heads-up.
