Broken Flag poles

Sandown suffers as ferocious winds snap flag poles and damage beach hut

The Met Office predicted strong winds today (Wednesday) and they have picked up enough since lunchtime to cause some very sad damage in Sandown.

As you can see from the photos the winds have managed to snap the two, relatively new, flag poles by the war memorial.

Sandown resident Jane Cresdee spotted the two broken flagpoles this afternoon. Jane posted the images to the Sandown Hub Facebook Group and told News OnTheWight,

“I couldn’t believe my eyes, the flag poles are relatively new, it is very sad to see them broken in two.”

Jane has informed the Town Council of the damage.

Hut roof flies off
Sadly the flag poles were not the only causalities.

The roof also came off the Beach Buoys’ hut next to the flag poles, who are also fighting the winds to move all of their canoes to safety.
