For those wondering what is happening with the Waterside Pool things are moving along we’re told.
Local Ryde resident, Barbara Mackie, got in touch with VB at the end of last week to give us an update.
She confirmed that a Steering Group (of which she’s a member) has now been set up and is working with financial experts, town councillors and staff at the pool.
High profile support being sought
The petitions are gathering signatures in support of keeping the pool in Ryde open, following a proposal to close it by the Isle of Wight council next March.
To raise the profile of the campaign, a number of celebrity swimmers and TV stars are being approached to lend their support for this vital service to local residents young and old.
In a recent letter to David Pugh, Barbara reminded the leader of the council that the pool was built after the tragic death of three children who drowned in Ryde.
We understand that another public meeting is being planned and we’ll let you know once we have the details.
