Residents and businesses opposed to the Isle of Wight council’s proposal to introduce foot passenger fares on the Floating Bridge at Cowes will be gathering for a peaceful protest at 5pm tonight (Tuesday).
Islanders are being urged to join them on the East Cowes side to show their opposition to the proposed foot passenger fares.
The Isle of Wight council argue that changes are needed to help fill a £28m budget gap caused by Government cuts and to start saving for a new floating bridge that will be needed in 25-30 years’ time (after the new one promised recently comes to the end of its life).
Flawed calculations and consultation
Those opposed say the arguments are flawed and calculations inaccurate.
They have also labelled the current public consultation as ‘completely biased’.
If you’d like to join others in protest today, meet on the East Cowes side of the Floating Bridge at 5pm.
