Vika and Rosti - displaced Ukrainian children start school

School life about to begin for displaced Ukrainian children now living on the Isle of Wight

News OnTheWight receives more encouraging news about Ukrainian families settling into Island life.

Cllr Chris Jarman explains that another landmark in the outpouring of support on the Isle of Wight took place this week when Ukrainian children began school life at Christ the King College.

Cllr Jarman has opened his home to two families displaced from Ukraine following the invasion of Russian forces in February 2022.

Induction to school
Vika and Rosti joined other newly-arrived Ukrainian children for their induction day last Friday.

Cllr Jarman and his wife, Barbara, held their second gathering of Ukrainian guests and hosts in their garden on Sunday.

Jarman: They could not have been prouder
On Monday the children went to select their school uniform and PE kit – proudly displaying the emblem of the school that has warmly welcomed them.

Cllr Jarman says,

“They could not have been prouder and the smiles demonstrate the very positive step this represents on their long journey.”
