Isle of Wight Council has today published its latest report on the schools reorganisation for the cabinet to consider at its next meeting on 24 November. This follows on from the formal consultation, which ended on 10 October.
It’s a lengthy report, but in a nutshell, the recommendation to cabinet is to press ahead with a change to a two -tier school system (4-11 primary schools of one- and two-form entry; and 11-19 secondary schools).
It’s recommended that new community secondary schools by established by competition and for the council not to bid to run them, but instead be the adjudicator.
A large proportion of responses to the formal consultation concerned the threat to St Helen’s and Yarmouth Primary Schools, and it’s recommended that an independent panel be brought in to review the plans for schools and communities where there has been a “significant response and concerns raised”.
