Last week’s BAFTA awards saw the Polish film ‘Ida’ win ‘Best Film in a Foreign Language’.
Ventnor Film Society is giving film-lovers an opportunity to catch this acclaimed film on the Island, with two showings this week.
In 1960s Poland, an 18-year-old orphan is preparing to become a nun, when she is ordered to meet her only living relative, her aunt Wanda, a tough, hard-drinking former Communist state prosecutor. Ida learns that she is in fact Jewish, that her real name is Ida and that her parents were murdered during the Nazi occupation. There follows an emotional journey to find the family’s country home and discover the truth about her past.
Where and when
‘Ida’ will be screened at Ventnor Arts Club on Tuesday and Wednesday at 7.30pm and entrance is £6 on the door.
