Many thanks to Alec Soars for sending through a report from the Shanklin Rifle & Pistol Club. Ed
The Shanklin Club was invited to participate in a meet the Sports Roadshow at the Sandown High School/Sports Centre in the Fairway, Sandown.
Children from the many schools in the area attended to see and have a go in large number of sports and activities.
At one end of a sports hall in a specially fenced off area the Shanklin Rifle & Pistol Club constructed a temporary range with two firing points. Guided by the clubs training liaison officer (Tony Elgar), and a number of YPS Tutors together with one of the SHS Students as a helper, a steady stream of pupils had a go to fire 5 shots at 6yds using the clubs air rifles.
Some fantastic groups were produced, there was also the occasional student who could not get the hang of looking through the sights no matter what aids and sighting tricks were used.
In a little over four hours almost 100 children took part in the shooting activity, some 70% of the shooters were girls.
