This in from Adam at Cowes Library, in his own words, Ed
The Island’s libraries are making some noise and want you to come along and be part of it!
Starting on Wednesday 15 May at Newport Library, every fortnight each of the Island’s council-run libraries will hold an exciting music evening. Entry to the gigs will be free, and light refreshments will be available, courtesy of local library friends and supporters groups.
‘Shhh… it’s a library music tour’
The ‘Shhh… it’s a library music tour’ will feature the talents of Chris Quinton and Ben Johnson with their folky acoustic sounds, ‘Floella Grace’ and friends who will subtly sweeten your evening, and finally some bluesy indie rock and roll from the fantastic ‘PhreakAudio’.
Andy Walker, development librarian at the Isle of Wight Council, said:
“We want to show people of all ages and backgrounds that our libraries are a great place to visit and offer more than just books, DVDs and free internet. We feel that opening the libraries in the evening and offering great music is a fantastic way of attracting new people to the libraries and showing what’s on offer.”
The tour is organised by Adam Gaterell, senior library assistant at Cowes Library.
Adam set up a similar gig at the library in February, he explains:
“We had a fabulous evening, the performers loved playing in a unique library setting, and the audience – a mixture of all ages of adults and children – really appreciated the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.”
The ‘Shhh… it’s a library tour’ will visit the following libraries:
Newport: 15 May, 6 pm to 8pm
Ventnor: 29 May, 6pm to 8pm
Freshwater: 12 June, 6pm to 8pm
