Passengers using Red Funnel ferries to travel to and from the Isle of Wight over the next week are facing significant disruption. With those travelling on Friday 2nd August facing delays of several hours.
The problem is due to an issue with the voith unit (a type of propulsion and steering system) on Red Eagle, resulting in the ferry company have had to cancel a number of sailings between East Cowes and Southampton.
A spokesperson for Red Funnel says,
“Our teams are working closely with the voith manufacturers on a repair plan, however, in the meantime we will have to operate a revised timetable from Friday 2nd to Friday 9th August.”
Severe delays
However, despite that revised timetable from 2nd-9th August, Red Funnel are expecting significant disruption to their service today (Friday 2 August).
They are therefore asking many of their customers to arrive several hours later than originally planned.
