Sneak peek at Isle of Wight artist creations at Quay Arts showcase event

With the date set for artists to open the doors to their studios this August, Isle of Wight Open Studios are hosting a Showcase Exhibition of artists work, in collaboration with Quay Arts in Newport, to highlight the rich diversity of art and craft practices represented across the Island.

The exhibition, curated and installed by Quay Arts in the Café and Clayden Gallery, opens with a launch event from 6pm–8pm on Friday 12th July which will introduce the new IW Open Studios Community Interest Company together with their team of volunteers from all five areas of the Island who are working together to create a coordinated event, celebrating Island artists.

The exhibition will then be open daily 9am–5pm until Sunday 4th August.

Raising public awareness of IW Open Studios
This free exhibition is being held to raise public awareness of IW Open Studios, giving visitors a glimpse of the wonderfully diverse range of work of a selection of the 120+ artists participating this year.

The exhibition provides a great opportunity for visitors to start to see what will be showcased during this Island-wide event – which is set to be the year’s most exciting and widespread celebration of art on the Island. Pieces on display will also be available to buy.

Underwood: Provides a meaningful way for artists to connect with local residents and visitors
Caroline Underwood, one of the three Directors of Isle of Wight Open Studios, an artist herself who has been exhibiting her artwork on the Isle of Wight (and beyond) for over 20 years said,

“I think that having one Island-wide coordinated event is an important element of the local cultural offer.

“The Isle of Wight Open Studios event has such valuable potential to help make the creative community here visible and provides a meaningful way for artists to connect with local residents and tourists alike.

“The showcase exhibition at Quay Arts brings together many Isle of Wight artists’ work in one place, representing the diversity of talent involved and offering visitors a taster of the kinds of art works they can look forward to discovering when they explore Open Studios later this Summer.”
