This just in from Southampton Police. Could be worth looking at if you’ve had jewellery stolen (old telegram also included). Ed
Police in Southampton are hoping to reunite some unique items of jewellery with their owner.
The pictures below show several pieces of jewellery found before January 15 this year in a bin area located off Winchester Road in Southampton.
The jewellery was found along with two handbags – one is made of straw and very distinctive with butterflies in different colours running along the side. A blue synthetic ladies handbag was also discovered.
Found with the items of jewellery was an old telegram, although not dated it may date back to World War One and is addressed to a Miss Berry of Little Hatherden, Andover.
There is also a news cutting which mentions a Private Frank Berry returning to Carlow having spent seven months in the trenches.
Unsuccessful on mainland
Enquiries in the Andover area have proved unsuccessful so far and police are now hoping some of these items may be recognised by someone living in Hampshire or the Isle of Wight.
Helen Ward, Burglary Investigation Coordinator based at Hulse Rd, Southampton, said: “We would really like to be able to reunite these items with their rightful owner. There are obviously some really sentimental pieces here.
“We have no idea where or how these items came to be in a bin in Southampton or if they were stolen from a burglary in the city or elsewhere in the county. If you recognise any of the items please do get in touch.”
If anyone has any information contact Helen Ward, Burglary Investigation Coordinator direct at Hulse Road on 02380 599997 or email [email protected] who can arrange a viewing. Proof of ownership will be required.
