Bus passengers on the Isle of Wight can continue to be able to travel on single journeys for £2.
Southern Vectis agreed to the Department for Transport (DfT) initiative, which caps the cost of a single ticket, at the start of the year.
This initiative is a crucial aspect of the Government’s Help for Households scheme.
Initially, the fare cap was supposed to end on 31 October 2023, but it now has an extension.
Andrew Wickham, Southern Vectis managing director.
“I am pleased to announce that Southern Vectis will continue to offer the £2 fare cap – in line with the Government’s announcement that the initiative will be extended.
“We expect the cap to continue until at least 31 December 2023, and this will allow us to carry on providing low-cost bus travel. It will also help to protect many routes relied upon by local people.
“Our aim is for people to change their travel habits, so they opt for the bus and other sustainable methods of travel instead of using their own vehicles to travel across the island. With one fully-loaded double decker bus having the potential to take up to 75 cars off the road, this is an excellent opportunity to reduce congestion across the Isle of Wight.”
Southern Vectis customers can travel on any single journey, on any of the operator’s buses – except the Needles Breezer – for £2 or less. They can also use any payment method – including tap on, tap off contactless, the app, and cash.
