This week’s home National Trophy speedway action for the Wightlink Islanders is scheduled to take place tonight (Thursday) at Smallbrook Stadium in Ashey Road, Ryde.
And they fully intend to send their fans home happy by defeating their opponents from Suffolk, the Mildenhall Fen Tigers.
Not that it is likely to be an easy task mind you with them having been defeated just twice so far this year in the twelve league meetings they’ve ridden so far although both their talented youngsters Matt Bates and Lewis Blackbird miss tonight’s encounter.
They each picked up injuries during Mildenhall’s 55-39 KO Cup semi-final, first leg victory over Stoke on Monday whilst tonight’s match, that starts with the riders’ pre-meeting parade at 7.20pm, sees the home debut of Wightlink Islanders recent signing Steve Jones who has been drafted into the side after Kyle Hughes announced his retirement.
Once again it promises to be another great night of high speed action around our 385 metre racetrack with both teams looking to get their National Trophy campaign off to a winning start.
