At the beginning of the summer holidays a group of four students from Medina High School Sixth Form will set off on a 600 miles cycle ride through France.
The cycle ride is not intended just to be a recreational tour through France, its purpose is to raise much needed cash for the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
The Year 12 students, along with a three strong support crew and two drivers, will be cycling coast to coast from Saint-Malo to Narbonne, by covering 110kms per day for nine consecutive days, the cyclists hope to complete the challenge in nine days and are hoping to raise £6,000 for the Hospice.
Help sought from local businesses
However, the costs of the challenge are quite high though, “Our Current Estimate of the Trip is £4,500, which mainly covers travel and campsite costs,” said Ben Harvey, support crew member and one of the organisers of the challenge.” We have been looking for sponsorship from local Island companies, to help cover some of the costs, but we have not had much luck so far, and now we are in urgent need for sponsors to come forward to help our cause,” he added.
