Keeping on a sport and charity theme, last weekend, a group of young people and staff from St Catherine’s School in Ventnor travelled off the Island and up to The Stoop in Twickenham to see Harlequins take on Ulster Rugby Club in the second round of the Heineken Cup.
St Catherine’s was the chosen charity of the match, nominated by St Catherine’s patron and Harlequins scrum half Andy Gomarsall.
As the nominated charity St Catherine’s had a write up in match programme and an announcement was made at the start of the match. An on-the-day collection also raised over £600.
The game was a nail biting and fast paced from the start, with Ulster scoring the first try within minutes.
Quins soon demonstrated that they were the stronger side and went on to score try after try finally storming to a 42-21 victory.
The day was a fantastic opportunity for St Catherine’s young people to experience a professional rugby match at the highest standard and a great day out was had by everyone.
The money raised will support the purchase of equipment for the children and young people of St Catherine’s.
Aimee Steward, Development Officer at St Catherine’s said
“We had a lovely day out and really enjoyed the rugby. We are really grateful to Andy and everyone at Harlequins for giving us this opportunity”.
