On Thursday 19th November, the British Medical Association (BMA) announced that junior doctors will take part in strike action in December, following a ballot of its members.
The BMA published the results of the ballot – with 98% of those junior doctors who took part in the ballot voting in favour of full industrial action.
The BMA is therefore currently planning for three days of industrial action to take place on the following dates:
- Tuesday 1st December – action short of a strike
- Tuesday 8th December – full strike action
- Wednesday 16th December – full strike action
Across the country, junior doctors will provide only emergency care from 8am on 1st December, followed by full strikes from 8am to 5pm on 8th and 16th December.
Shaun Stacey, Chief Operating Officer said
“Following last week’s announcement about forthcoming industrial action by junior doctors, the IOW NHS Trust is currently reviewing its staffing arrangements to ensure minimal disruption to our services.
“We would advise patients and service users that unless they are directly contacted by the hospital, they should attend their appointment as usual.”
The Trust’s highest priority is to provide excellent and safe services to our patients, and this does not change during periods of industrial action. Where any disruption to normal services is likely to occur, patients will be notified well in advance.
