The Isle of Wight branch of the National Autistic Society (NAS) has been nominated as Charity of the Year by the Vectis Remnant Squad of the UK Garrison (VRS), a Star Wars Costuming Group. VRS will be raising funds for the branch until November 2012 and have lots of exciting events planned such as a Star Wars themed raffle with prizes to include a full size storm trooper helmet down to smaller Star Wars collectables.
“May the force be with us”
Louise Foley, Branch Officer at the NAS IOW branch, said: “We are extremely grateful to VRS and are feeling very excited about working with them throughout the year to raise much needed funds. We have many Star Wars enthusiasts within our own families, so it should be a really fun time. May the force be with us!”
Steve West, Events Officer at the VRS, said: “We are all in support of the work the IOW NAS branch does and unanimously voted to support them over the next year. Last year we raised £1,000 for another charity and we hope to be able to do the same for the NAS. They’ll be lots of events going on throughout the year and we urge the local community to get involved and help us raise vital funds for the branch.”
