The UKIP candidate for the role of Police and Crime Commissioner will be heading across the Solent this weekend to meet Isle of Wight residents.
The Hampshire councillor who defected from the Conservatives to UKIP a few weeks ago will be setting up a pop-up shop in Newport High Street on Saturday morning.
As well as talking to residents, Stephen will also be meeting police and community organisations, listening, he says, to their views on crime and policing on the Island.
Stephen West will be making a key announcement at the opening of the shop at 11am on Saturday morning.
He said, “I have been listening to the Islanders who tell me that they feel remote and that their views are not taken into account. The announcement that I will make on Saturday morning will mean that, if I am elected, the Islanders will have a real voice on crime and policing on their Island.”
The Island moves to a ‘different beat’
He went on to say, “No longer will decisions be taken in the name of Island residents by a faceless committee in Winchester. As well as the physical separation, I recognise that there is a cultural difference and that the Island moves to a ‘different beat.’
“I want to be the Commissioner for the whole police force and the Isle of Wight people deserve a voice and fair representation; my policy announcement will guarantee that.”
Stephen will be on the Island until Monday. For further information, visit his Website
The pop-up shop is at 116 High Street, Newport, PO30 1TH
