Nine anglers returning from a fishing expedition in a moderate south-westerly well east of the Isle of Wight yesterday had to be rescued by Cowes RNLI lifeboat after the boat had engine trouble.
The eight-metre Moonstone, which had taken the anglers to the area of the Nab Tower, suffered a break-down off Wootton Creek.
After trying without success for half an hour to get the engine restarted they finally informed Solent coastguards of their plight.
Fortunately for them Cowes lifeboat was just leaving Cowes for an exercise when the alarm was raised. The lifeboat, helmed by Max Rimington, eventually towed the Moonstone to its base at East Cowes Marina.
The whole rescue operation, which began at around 3.45 pm took about one and a half hours.
