Many thanks to VB reader Sue Goodall for sharing news of this campaign to save Lake Post Office. We’re sure this must relate to many other sub-Post Offices too. In her own words. Ed
Katy Clark, MP for North Ayrshire and Arran, has tabled an Early Day Motion 2841 in Parliament.
This is in response to the Post Office’s plans to convert over 50% if its branch network to new operating models over three years from April 2012 with 2,000 branches being converted to the new Locals.
Local models not yet trialled
There are concerns over the smaller range of services which will be available at Locals and over the existing sub-post offices which may close as a result of this exercise.
Post Office Ltd has not yet fully trialled the Locals model and there is limited opportunity for public engagement.
The EDM calls for Post Office Ltd to impose a moratorium on the proposed rollout of Locals until a full national consultation has been carried out.
Lake Post Office at risk
Lake Post Office is in the firing line (as may be other sub post offices) despite the fact that a new cafe business has just opened there.
Printed cards are available at this Post Office to send to Andrew Turner at the House of Commons asking him to sign the EDM.
Please support if you can.
