We weren’t able to make it down to the St Catherine’s Summer Fair a couple of weeks ago, so thanks to Kim for sending through this update. Ed
Last month saw St Catherine’s host their annual summer fair, with beautiful weather and a great turnout the day couldn’t have been a greater success.
The fair was officially opened at 11.30am by a team from the Isle of Wight police, who presented a cheque for £1500 following a recent sponsored charity challenge Source to Sea – The Severn Challenge.
The team of six, Cliff Jones, Matt Wilford, Simon O’Dea, Tom Gamble, Paul McPartlin, Rob Power, kayaked 172km from the source of the River Severn in mid Wales to the Severn Estuary at Gloucester; they were supported by Claire Ackerman.
Following the official opening, the police team took great delight in visiting the various stalls and meeting everyone. Stalls included giftware, bric a brac, the School’s The Voice magazine, books, splat the rat, homemade fudge, pupil’s art and craftwork and many, many more. There was also a display of fantastic trikes from The Tow Rags Club who kindly displayed their fabulous bikes.
Tug of War Popular
The highlight of the day was Tug of War, with the Police the eventual winners following a hard fight from The Whatevers- a team made up of St Catherine’s staff. The fair closed with an auction which included a family ticket to Bestival, donated by St Catherine’s patron Rob da Bank and a stunning vase kindly donated by Isle of Wight Glass.
Principal Grenville Shipley said “It was a lovely day which gave many people the chance to see St Catherine’s and meet the team. In addition it is fantastic meeting so many past learners and their families and hearing all their wonderful news.”
The fair was a fantastic success raising just under £3000, which will support the expansion of St Catherine’s vocational training project- The Worx.
