Isle of Wight farmers invited to talk by leading expert on Maize production in the UK

Isle of Wight farmers are invited to attend a Maize Growers Event on Tuesday 13th September, with a talk from Jon Myhill, Technical Agronomist for the Maize Growers Association.

Jon Myhill is a leading expert on Maize production in the UK.

Feeding the Anaerobic Digesters
There has been a dramatic increase in the area of maize farmed over the Island in recent years and this has been to feed the Island’s Anaerobic Digesters, a source of renewable energy.

Anaerobic Digesters create biogas by breaking down maize through fermentation. This biogas is then burned to make energy.

Learn how to optimise maize yields and protect soil
The event aims to provide farmers information about how they can optimise their maize yields and protect their soils and the environment.

Farmers will be treated to a field visit in the Arreton Valley, followed by an indoor presentation, by Jon Myhill, at Harvey Browns Cafe, Hale Common.
