Thanks to Sue for sharing details of this great project. We’re looking forward to getting our copy. In her own words, Ed
Over the last four years, on most Fridays mornings in Ventnor Community Cafe, a group led by John Goodwin has been meeting to learn the craft of writing.
We’ve written plays, some of us are working on novels, and this last period we’ve been learning about writing fictional folk tales.
A new book Telling Tales: Stories of the Isle of Wight has been published as a result.
What’s it about?
Many of the Telling Tales stories have a humourous flavour, one or two may make you shiver, some are contemporary fictional folk tales, another is a ghost story.
The stories meander around and about the Isle of Wight, Brading Roman Villa, Arreton, Ventnor, Knighton Gorges, Freshwater Bay, Luccombe, St Boniface Down, Brighstone, Mottistone Down, St Catherine’s Lighthouse, Cowes and East Cowes.
All welcome to launch event
A launch event is being held at Brading Roman Villa on Sunday, 24th June from 2.15pm when some of the writers will be reading some extracts from their work.
There are seven of us; June Abbott, Wendy Cooper, Sue Curd, John Goodwin, David Hughes, Evelyn Knowles, Glenn Koppany – we hope you enjoy our work.
Contributing to local charity
We wanted to contribute to a local charity and so with Evelyn’s connection to Ventnor Library it seemed like a good idea to donate 12% of any profits to the library for their children’s activities.
It’s not all work though, we’ve also enjoyed having lunch in TZs after our writing sessions. What an inspirational place Ventnor is!
Buy your copy
It’s now possible for anyone to read Kindle books even if they don’t have a Kindle (see here to download an app for pc, Mac, I-Pad etc) and so we thought that we’d have a go at publishing our book onto Amazon and it’s now available!
