Loyal VB readers who have been with us for a few years, are fairly likely to be able spot the kind of story that we love here at VB HQ.
So when we heard about a local band who had recorded their track for the Live Wired Competition by using only renewable energy sources, we were keen to find out more.
The Cassette Recorders have been knocking about together since August last year creating what they describe as ‘dance music for drunks’.
Being forward thinking types the lads tells us that they’ve channelled enough wind and sun to power up their machines to record the track Beaper Shute which they’ve entered into the Platform One/County Press Live Wired competition (the winners of which get to play on the mainstage of the 2010 IW Festival).
So how do they do it?
The method is pretty straight forward ….
They use a wind turbine linked to a small generator. This has been connected to cassette recorders. These recorders are using renewable charged batteries to power and record the music. The lads then use a laptop powered by a solar panel cell to convert from tape to mp3.
Not bad eh!
