This Friday (17th May 2024) sees the return of The Cuban Brothers to the Isle of Wight, as they head to Strings Bar and Venue in Newport for a night of crazy antics, courtesy of Ears Peeled.
The Cuban Brothers have made their mark from sold-out tours and festival spots to club nights, film roles and fashion shows, embedding their unparalleled act in pop culture.
Since forming two decades ago, Miguel and his suspect sidekicks have gained worldwide fame for igniting parties, performing risqué sketches, showing off B-boy moves, and playing funk-fuelled music. Audiences everywhere have embraced the Hawaiian suit-sporting crew and their outrageous, X-rated antics.
A comedy act with serious musicians
Although The Cuban Brothers perform as a comedy act, they are serious musicians who have played alongside Prince, toured with James Brown, and supported Fatboy Slim, Chuck Berry and De La Soul.
In 2018, they marked their 20th Anniversary with a special tour through the Scottish Highlands and Islands—where their journey began—and released their latest compilation ‘La Familia.’ This album includes a new Cubans track, “I Hate Hate,” along with classics from Herbie Hancock, Children of Zeus, and D’Angelo.
Freestyling and breakdancing
Their legendary act combines skits and stories with soul, funk, and hip-hop music, featuring Miguel freestyling and the trio breakdancing.
During the Edinburgh Festival, their late-night residency at the Gilded Balloon turned into a gathering spot for emerging comedians like Sasha Baron Cohen as Ali G, Dara O’Brien, Andrew Maxwell, and Ed Byrne. Just months after forming The Cuban Brothers, they secured a residency in Amsterdam and another at the legendary Manumission in Ibiza.
A staple of Sunday Best parties
In South London, Rob Da Bank made them a staple of his Sunday Best parties, quickly accelerating their fame. Their work at private parties took off early and continues unabated—figures from Elton John and Robbie Williams to Richard Branson and Davina McCall have enlisted the Cubans to add their unique flair to events.
Last year, they hosted Noel Gallagher’s 50th birthday party after the singer proclaimed them the best act at Glastonbury.
So gather your friends and grab your tickets for a night of crazy antics at Strings this week.
