The Quay Arts Jazz Cafe has a great band lined up for June and there’ll be a great diner menu too.
Twenty-four-year-old drummer/composer David Lyttle has been hailed as one of the most significant musicians to have emerged in Ireland over the past decade.
He hails from a musical family with a background steeped in music, including early performances with ‘The Lyttle Family’, playing folk music on cello, bodhrán and lambeg drum.
This Ireland-based performer and composer’s overriding musical expression is through jazz and folk music genres. He self-taught on a drum kit, aged eight but also received classical training on cello.
In his teens his focus shifted to drums with a growing interest in jazz. A graduate of the University of Ulster, he has also studied under scholarship at the Banff Centre (Canada) and Skidmore Jazz Institute (New York).
He has worked all over the world, including the US, Canada, Britain and Europe and has collaborated widely with internationally acclaimed artists, including Greg Osby, David Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Tommy Smith, Soweto Kinch, Matt Penman, Jason Rebello, Jaleel Shaw, Dave Allen, Jamie Baum, Jonathan Kreisberg, Louis Stewart, Jacqui Dankworth, Ronan Guilfoyle and Michael Buckley, who is featured on his 2007 release ‘True Story’.
He remains true to his roots and still performs with his mother; two sisters and brother in the contemporary folk group ‘The Lyttle Family’, playing mostly double bass.
Quay Arts sees him on his Isle of Wight leg of an extensive tour playing with an international line-up of special guests from US and Europe.
What others have said:
