Mr. Peter Pye - with Simon Goodenough (Curator of Ventnor Botanic Garden) The winner of The Great Isle of Wight Quiz 2008 is Peter Pye with Robert Croad, Colin Briggs, Wendy Hopps and Margaret Wigmore in second to fifth places.

Colin won the competition in 2006 and Robert has moved up from third to second place.

All the top five scores were very close with Peter achieving 87.5 out of a possible 90.

All the questions were answered by at least one competitor.

Margaret Wigmore (5th), Peter Pye (Winner), Chris Bull (Quizmaster), Robert Croad (2nd), Colin Briggs (3rd) and Wendy Hopps (4th)

The questions about old Island place names caused most head scratching and for those desperate to know, Chris Bull who set the questions confirmed that the Broadstone was near Carpenters between St Helens and Brading; Heath Barracks were where the Sandown Leisure Centre now stands and Bull Place Point is now known as Hanover Point at Brook.

Answer sheets can be obtained from the Visitor Centre at Ventnor Botanic Garden (sae please).
