The Hampton Trust, based in Hampshire has been awarded £192,726 worth of funding from the joint Daily Mail and The Big Lottery’s initiative ‘Silverdreams Fund’ for their ‘Planning for the Future’ programme.
Piloted on the Isle of Wight
‘Planning for the Future’ is a new project scheme, being piloted on the Isle of Wight designed to help older people who have a life-changing event that has altered the course of their future, such as an illness including Dementia, bereavements or care.
The initiative’s aimed at helping and supporting older people and their families and friends by carrying out a ‘family meeting’ where everyone has the opportunity to openly discuss concerns and plans for the individual’s future.
Already shown positive outcomes
This project is based on The Hampton Trust’s Family Group Conferencing Model and has already shown positive outcomes in safeguarding and child welfare cases. The aim of the ‘Planning for the Future’ project is to adapt the model for use with older people.
The project is run in partnership with Inclusion Outright, Making Connections, The Alzheimer’s Cafe and Hampshire Constabulary. This service is supported by the local community and a group of dedicated trained volunteers. One volunteer said “Volunteering is both challenging and rewarding in equal measures.
Finding the best plan of action for the future
It has given me the opportunity to help older people whose lives have been seriously affected and help them and their families work out the best plan of action for their future. It has opened my eyes to the very real issues that older people face and are struggling with.
Hampton Trust offer excellent training and ongoing support and has really helped me to make a difference on someone’s life.”
