Thanks to Ben Rust from the Hospice for sharing this news. In his own words. Ed
The Earl Mountbatten Hospice’s Chief Executive, Tina Harris, alongside hospice Trustee Sheila Wilson, are swapping their business suits for flight suits when they take part in a sponsored 13,000ft skydive.
The daredevil duo will experience up to 45 seconds of freefall, whilst accelerating up to 120mph, before releasing their parachutes and serenely drifting back down to terra-firma.
Hope to raise £10,000
While taking in the thrill and exhilaration of this amazing experience they’ll be safely harnessed to members of the Army Parachute Association, who will be on hand to pull the ripcord and accompany them on their five minute canopy ride back to earth.
The high-flying pair will be joined by 20 other adrenaline seeking fundraisers on Saturday 28th April, in what is the single biggest group of skydivers the hospice has accompanied to the Army Parachute Associations dropzone at Netheravon, Sailsbury. The group hopes to raise upwards of £10,000 for patient care.
“Engagement of the whole Island community”
Tina Harris joined Earl Mountbatten Hospice as Chief Executive in August of last year, and during this time has taken a personal interest in all aspects of the Hospice’s fundraising.
Here’s Tina, in her own words, “I have had the privilege of witnessing and being a part of so many events, all of which have been driven by the enormous energy and commitment of our staff and volunteers, and many of which demonstrate a real and moving engagement of the whole Island community.”
Her partner in the plane, Shelia Wilson, has been a valued member of the Hospice’s Board of Trustees for two years and has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. They have set up a joint on-line sponsorship page at Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor the adventurous brace by visiting their page.
All funds donated go directly to providing patient care at the Island’s Hospice.
