2021 marks the 75th anniversary of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT), a centre for science and conservation in Gloucestershire set up by Peter Scott, the son of the famous Antarctic explorer, and founding Chair of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
You may ask, ‘what has that got to do with the Isle of Wight?’
The inspiration behind Naturezones
Well Peter Scott was the inspiration for a very special nature reserve here on the Isle of Wight.
Naturezones is the brainchild of Islander, Angela Hewitt. Stretched across ten acres in sleepy Blackwater, the small nature reserve and field study centre not only plays host to education programmes, but is a haven of tranquility for all to experience.
Finding the spark
Angela was asked by the WWT to write for their 75th anniversary celebrations.
You can read her post on their Website, where she explains the inspiration behind Naturezones, the conservationist Peter Scott.
See the Naturezones Website for more information about what they offer.
