You might recognise Melanie’s name from previous work exhibited at Quay Arts.
She helped establish the ‘Inside Outside’ exhibition group in 2003, who had their first show in the Rope Store Gallery bringing together the work of five artists, sharing their experiences of living with autism within the family.
This upcoming exhibition presents her work as an iconographer and recent work in other media: the ethos and visual language of icons fuel and inspire her work. According to the promotional literature, “it is the expression of the relationship between the divine, the human and nature which makes this such a significant display of work.”
Originally training in France as an icon painter, Melanie has since run workshops and explored other media through working with people with disabilities.
‘My life as an icon painter is the origin of all my creative expression and working in other media holds the same sense of process and unfolding for me. I am drawn by the sense of things not being as they first appear and the joy of discovering the unexpected’.
