It was just over a year ago that News OnTheWight reported what Ventnor residents thought was an April Fool’s joke was being played on them when bizarre road markings were painted on a section of road recently dug up by WightFibre.
We were reminded of that debacle today (Friday) when this photo of possibly the shortest length of double yellow lines you’ve ever seen, recently painted in Lynch Lane, Calbourne, popped up.
Steven Haggerty shared the photo with News OnTheWight and explained,
“I know it was WightFibre who dug the trench, but I’m not sure who it was that painted the lines as (obviously) they were only there for about one minute!”
The double yellow lines that exist either side of the resurfaced section of the road are so faded that you’d hardly notice they were there.
Working to strict permits
When something similar happened last year in Ventnor, WightFibre explained that they work in accordance to strict permits issued by Island Roads. In essence, they are required to only paint road markings on the section of road they have dug up and resurfaced.
Resurfaced around a van
Road surfacing giggles have been around for quite a while – this one took us back to that time Island Roads resurfaced a road around a parked van in Gunville back at the beginning of the 25-year PFI contract.
