Tomorrow (Thursday 27th September) a group of community spirited (and fit) Islanders will be setting off from Paris to start their two-day bike ride back to the sunny Isle of Wight.
The purpose of this challenge is to raise money for the Kissypuppy, the Sophie Rolf Fund.
As readers will remember, five year old Sophie was diagnosed with a brain tumour earlier in the year and is currently receiving treatment. As Paul Blackley shared with readers last month, Sophie and her family have been travelling back and forth from the Island to Southampton for chemotherapy over the summer.
17 cyclists, 160 miles
Paul tells us that a group of 17 cyclists will be cycling approximately 160 miles, cycling from Paris to Caen with hopes of arriving there on Friday night and returning to Portsmouth by ferry.
They will then cycle from Ryde to Sydenhams in Newport to cross the finishing line.
Paul tells us that none of those taking part are experienced cyclists and all are looking forward to the challenge ahead.
Your ideas wanted
Paul tells us that one of the riders, Spencer Wright, is a huge Liverpool FC fan has been told that if he wears a Man Utd shirt from Fishbourne to Sydenhams when they return, Kissypuppy will get an extra £100 sponsorship.
How about coming up with similar ideas for the other riders. Paul says that he’s sure Dean Orchard, MD of Sydenhams would wear a tutu if enough was offered ;-)
