Way back last summer (that’s 2006), Mr VB and myself drove up to Ryde to catch a look at West London’s premier psych-funkers, The Peas play at The Cellar.
It was a rocking night, with The Chancers in support.
When I heard recently heard that one of the band members was planning another trip to the Island with his partner, I suggested that they take the time to mosey down to Ventnor. Well they did just that and take a look at what a wonderful impression our town left on them.
“We’d planned to spend some time in Ryde at the weekend, but ended up spending nearly all of it in Ventnor.
It reminded me of the Headland, in Hartlepool on the northeast coast of Durham, where I grew up, except for a visibly lower percentage of nutters. Can’t have everything though. We loved it all and can’t wait to come back and check it out again.
Ventnor is cool!
Just wanted to say thanks for tipping us off”.
We saw a mosaic being unveiled at somewhere called the poo palace, had a pint at the Spyglass, some Minghella’s ice-cream, checked out the budgies in that little cage in the park, some great clifftop walks, and had time to check out some flats too.
Appreciations to the man in question, for letting us share his experience with you – isn’t it great to hear good feedback about what is now dubbed the new centre of the universe. [Many thanks also to Ventnorgraphic for use of the lovely cascade shot above]
