The Isle of Wight Prostate and Other Urology Cancer Support Group (UCWECARE) is organising a special fund-raising concert featuring the popular Phoenix Choir commencing at 7.30pm on Friday 18th October at St. John’s Church, Newport.
The Choir will perform songs from their 2013 programme covering a wide range of musical styles “From Pavarotti to Presley”. Whilst admission is free, there will be a retiring collection and a Raffle. Refreshments will be available.
More awareness needed
Prostate cancer is growing at a disturbingly high rate and fatalities are now almost equal to breast cancer. Today over a quarter of all newly-diagnosed cases involve prostate cancer. Despite the similarity in mortality rates it is clear that prostate cancer is very much the poor relation in terms of public awareness.
One of the Group’s key priorities is to raise awareness of the risks posed by this cancer and the importance of early diagnosis.
In recent months you may have seen our stall pitched at such sites as the Chale Show, Bembridge Fair and various supermarkets on the Island. In addition to such activities we provide support to patients and carers through a variety of initiatives and one of our aims is to contribute financially to cancer research, through Prostate Cancer UK.
With the support of Macmillan a new initiative is to train members to act as ‘Buddies’ to newly diagnosed men and so become a welcome resource for the St. Mary’s Hospital Urology Department.
Show your support
Additional funding is always a high priority and the Isle of Wight Prostate and other Urology Cancer Support Group hopes that you will be able to support this forthcoming concert, where we guarantee you will have an enjoyable evening and the satisfaction of knowing that you are contributing to the aims of this much-needed and supportive Island group.
