The Prince & Princess Society relaunches

Michaela shares this latest news from The Prince & Princess Society. Ed

In 2015 The Prince & Princess Society IOW was launched with the aim of raising money and providing grants to other Island based organisation which supported a variety of children’s charities.

Over the past twelve months, and with a lot of hard work and support, we were successfully able to raise several thousand pounds for worthy causes across the Island. Work well done, and a huge ‘thank you’ to all those who helped and supported us!

Changes afoot
However, throughout this time is became very clear to us, and understandable, that the general public really preferred to give their time and donations to specific individual charities (things they can relate to or follow) rather than to an organisation such as us who intended to spread the proceeds of fund raising across many different charities.

As such, we have decided to make a change.

Autism and other Neurological conditions
Following our AGM in August 2016, it was unanimously agreed that The Prince & Princes Society IOW would refocus its aims, and as a result we have decided to redirect our fundraising efforts on supporting ‘Island children with Autism and other Neurological conditions’, with the intention of providing special equipment and access to events and experiences for children and their siblings and to help them to access all that the Island has to offer.

Therefore we are now looking to the general public for help!

We need your help
We are in desperate need of financial donations, sponsorships, legacy donations, time and support, whatever people are prepared to give to help raise money, our profile and people’s awareness of these conditions that seems to be affecting more and more of our Island’s children.

Our first target is to raise funds for our proposed trip in December to see a special “relaxed” performance of a pantomime. We aim to allow as many children and their families as possible experience a trip out which will be massively appreciated and beneficial to all those who would normally find this something simply impossible to attend.

First-hand experience
Michaela White said,

“I know first-hand exactly how hard it can be for families living with a child with autism, and in some cases with multiple children with the condition. You tend to become cut off from society, often fearing to go out due to public perception or repercussions.

“Our hope and aim is that we can provide experiences that the children and their families will be able to take part in and enjoy.

“We will be working with local Island-based businesses to provide equipment (i.e., sensory items) and ‘days out’ event that can help a child cope with ‘normal’ life situations.”

*The Prince & Princes Society IOW will be working towards registered charity status under its new aims.
