More news from Cora about the forthcoming Renaissance Festival taking place in Ryde this May. Lots of help needed, read on and see if you add to the mix. Ed
The Renaissance Festival is a completely community run event – everyone producing the festival is doing so voluntarily and all profits will go to four Island charities – all wonderful things!
The Festival is a fancy dress bonanza – where everyone is encouraged to dig around in their dressing up box and take part ye olde style!
Part of the Renaissance Festival will be the Enchanted Realm, full of mysterious things, fairies, mystics, witches and wizards, fantasy, crones and banshees – and we’re looking for people who would like to come along as part of the Enchanted Realm.
This could be someone wanting to sell their enchanted wares (crystals, incense, arts, etc) or someone who might want to act a ‘part’ for the day (or a few hours in the day, maybe a crone…or a wizard?) – performers who have a mysterious act … magicians … anything that would fit into the Enchanted Realm. Anyone interested in being part of this fantastic community celebration can contact me on: 611913 or email cora(at)theparkcentre.org.uk
A plea is for materials!
What we’re looking for is odds and ends! Fabrics (anything and everything – we’ll be turning Smallbrook Stadium into a Renaissance era village!) – what would be wonderful is to have donations of any old sheets or tablecloths from hotels – they can be in any condition (even with holes – we don’t mind!) we’re also looking for rope – paint – paint brushes – wood and other equipment.
Currently we’re building teams of site dressers and designers – and if anyone wants to be part of that too, they are most welcome.
Renaissance costume workshops will be held at the Park Centre from 25th February – there will also be extra costume workshops held at the centre throughout March and April.
Barnardos has partnered with the Isle of Wight Community Renaissance Festival to hold half term family workshops throughout the February half term (16th – 20th February) 2-4pm – workshops will be on Tudor cooking, costume, fairy wings and Tudor games – if anyone is interested in taking part (they are for the whole family) please call Becky or Fiona on 616607.
Entertainment and festivities will include:
The Apollo Players
Ad Lib Theatre
Eastern Promise Belly-dance Troupe
Isle of Wight Schools Country Dance group
Isle of Wight Ghost Experience (with stocks and an ‘execution’!!)
Medieval Story Teller (Fairy Tales)
Poetry
Clairvoyance and Tarot Card reading

Traditional food as well as dragon burgers and steak on a stake!
The Mallishag Tavern!

Sponsors
We’d also like to encourage sponsors for the event – a sponsor can have a Renaissance Banner displayed on site throughout the day – the banner will be created and produced through family learning workshops throughout February – a company may sponsor through a financial donation or a donation of equipment – please contact Marcelle at marcelle(at)theparkcentre.org.uk
If there are any Island printers who would like to come on board to help with promotional material for the Festival, please get in touch – this is a perfect way for an Island business to get involved, support four local charities, and generally do a nice thing for the Isle of Wight community as a whole!
