The sun is out for Ventnor Carnival

Ventnor Carnival has, in our opinion, got to be one the best carnivals on the Isle of Wight.

We’re not sure whether it’s the people taking part, the atmosphere created by those watching, the uniqueness of the route or all those things added together that make it so, but we love it!

Tonight sees the 123rd anniversary of the first Ventnor Carnival making it the second oldest carnival in England.

As the main carnival procession will weave its way through town, watch out for road closures and diversions in place later on.

Procession starts at 7pm
Floats taking part will be assembling in Dudley Road and Albert Street from 5.15pm, setting off at 7pm.

The route takes the floats and procession up Pier Street, High Street, Madeira Road, St Catherine’s Street, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Pier Street, Church Street, Belgrave Road and Park Avenue (o/s Ventnor Park) where it is due to arrive at approx 8.40pm.

All roads should be re-opened to traffic by approx 9.15pm.

If you need to drive across Ventnor follow diversion through Castle Road, Gills Cliff Road, Ocean View Road, Mitchell Avenue and St Boniface Road.

Fireworks will take place on the seafront between 9-10pm.
