The Wasps Legends Are Coming

On Saturday 14th May 2011, the Wasps Legends will be coming to Ventnor Rugby Club to play a charity match against the Ventnor Veterans.

Wasps scrum by ZoonbarAmong the Wasps Legends are many household names including Josh Lewsey, Kenny Logan, Andy Gomarsall, Damian Cronin and Paul Volley.

In all, there are three British Lions, eight full internationals, four Barbarians and four England A players.

World Cup winners and Strictly Come Dancing star
Peter Scrivener, the Wasps Legends organiser says, “We are delighted to be coming over to the Island on the 14th May and it will actually be my first ever visit, so personally I’m very much looking forward to it! Wasps Legends play two or three times a year for charity and our aim is very simple; raise as much money as possible for the charities on the day.

“We will be bringing some very well known players including World Cup winners and our very own Strictly Come Dancing star Kenny Logan! These games are very special to us as it gives our players a chance to don the famous Wasps Jersey once more but – more importantly – to catch up with old friends. We look forward to meeting you all on the 14th May and I hope we hit our fund-raising targets.”

The match is in aid of St Catherines School, in Ventnor and The Richard Engelgardt Trust.

Veterans battle it out on the pitch
The main event of the day will be the match when ten Wasps Legends take on a Ventnor Veterans team – featuring a quota of local legends itself.

The match kicks off at 3pm and will be refereed by David Rose (a current Premiership Referee).

The gates open at 11:30. There is a free Park and Ride from Ventnor Middle School (one mile from the pitch).

Tickets cost £5 and are available on line from Ventnor Rubgy and Football Club and all branches of Hose Rhodes and Dixons Estate Agents (Ventnor, Ryde, Newport, Shanklin, and Bembridge).

There will be a chance to meet your heroes so bring your autograph book and purchase the souvenir programme.

There will also be a raffle on the day with a top prize of £250 donated by Ventnor Rotarians. There will be plenty of refreshments, beer tents, hog roasts etc.
