Thermal drone technology key to locating third runaway raccoon on the Isle of Wight

Raccoon number three has been caught and returned home safely to Amazon World Zoo Park!

Last week, four raccoons from Amazon World managed to escape from their enclosure, sparking a huge search and rescue operation.

By Saturday night, two had been found and returned to be with their sister, and on Monday raccoon number three was captured.

Special thanks
The team at Amazon World have this special thank you for all involved,

“Thanks to Ben the thermal drone guy for helping well into the early hours by tracking heat sources either running (or hopping) around the zoo when we can’t see everything with our eyes because it’s pitch black out there!

“Thanks to Track a Dog team for their continued support. We’ve seen them every night with dogs or thermal cameras checking all the hedges for us.

“Thanks to all the staff for working through the night and also the staff working through the day (often short) so the night team can get some sleep.

“Thanks for support and kind messages from all across the world. They mean so much.”

Call for equipment
They go on to say that the more heat source technology they have, the more we can see as it’s so difficult searching hedges, trees and roof tops with torches.

If has any heat sourcing equipment they would be very grateful. In addition, the team are also asking whether anyone has any large fox traps that they can place around the zoo site.

If you do please call them on 01983 867122. They can collect.
