Two local Scouts are desperately fundraising by selling various items they have made with Paracord, as well as holding regular car boot sales in the hope that it will enable them to join with fellow Scouts and Guides, from all over the world, to support change globally.
15th World Scout Moot
Tim Scott and Graham Hammond hope to travel to Iceland next year to participate in the 15th World Scout Moot, to undertake community, nature and adventure projects if they can raise £1,500 each to help them get there.
The first £500 of which needs to be paid by the end of December.
Once there, they will have the unique opportunity to team up with other Scouts and Guides to gain knowledge and understanding of projects from an international perspective, which will positively influence their communities locally and nationally.
Official WOSM event
The World Scout Moot is an official event of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM), hosted and organized by the Icelandic Boy and Girl Scout Association, for young people aged between 18 and 25 inclusive.
The event offers young people the chance to develop personally on projects that are of genuine value to communities around the world. On return to the UK, scouts undertake a Change project, ensuring that their new skills and experiences also benefit their local communities.
Graham said:
“Our fundraising is a way of making sure that my skills get passed on to others of a similar mind-set. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside people from different cultures who also want to make a change where it’s needed most. I’m really excited to get out there.”
What they’ve been making
Tim has been busy making Bracelets, Fire-steel bracelets, Key fobs, Bumblebee and Dragonfly key rings, Xmas tree decs, amazingly all from paracord. They have been selling these at various Christmas Fayres across the Island.
