A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said:
“We can confirm armed officers were on duty in Freshwater on the Isle of Wight on Monday, September 23, 2013.
“Two men and two women were arrested in the High Street area of Freshwater as part of a police operation. They were questioned in police custody.
“Two addresses in Freshwater were searched for possible evidence.
“The two men, aged 29 and 25, and one of the women, aged 21, were all released on bail until November 4, 2013 pending further enquiries into the suspected theft of a car, which was found on fire near Fort Victoria on the island in the early hours of Monday morning (September 23, 2013).
“The second woman, aged 26, was released with no further action.
“There is no information to suggest a wider risk to the community.
