Three call-outs in three days for independent lifeboat

Thanks to Mark from the Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat for details of recent call-outs. Ed

Lifeboat:The Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has been tasked by the Solent Coastguard three times in the last three days.

The first on Sunday (19th August) was to a speed boat with engine failure one mile off Lake. With two persons on board, a passing canoeist alerted the coastguard who then tasked us. They were then towed back to Yaverland sailing club and brought ashore.

The second, later that day at 18.37, took place after the Coastguard received several 999 calls. It resulted in an immediate launch to a child that was in a canoe off Yaverland who had fallen off and was waving for help. He was picked up and brought back to shore and was safe and well.

On Tuesday at 17.45 we were also paged for an immediate launch to reports of a capsized catamaran one mile off Shanklin, with persons in water. On arrival the boat had been righted and they made their way back to Yaverland.

This being the busiest month of the year, we would like to thank all the people that called the Coastguard on 999 as the speed of which the public responded made for a quicker launch which in turn helped save lives.
