Almost two weeks ago, residents on the south of the Isle of Wight were treated to a wonderful, if slightly spooky spectacle.
Looking out of the window at around 10pm on Friday 19th June, we spotted dozens of green lights flickering out at sea.
Overnight yacht race
Having quickly dismissed an alien invasion, we realised the lights were sat at the top of yacht masts sailing past.
It was a very still night, so quite an eery experience to stand outside watching the boats pass by, with just the thwacking of the sails or shouts from the sailors sounding our every so often.
@IowBlue and @jessofwight were able to confirm via Twitter that the yachts were taking part in RORC Morgan Cup race to Guernsey.
Stars and boats
As the boats were passing Ventnor, we got in touch with great friend of OnTheWight, Julian Winslow, who whizzed over to Blackgang to capture the boats (and stars).
We’re sure you’ll agree, his timelapse footage looks spectacular. Click on the HD option and watch full screen.
