Anyone who has walked past The Velvet Pig, the vintage clothes and accessories shop on Union Street, Ryde, will have seen the consistently amazing window displays.
They are changed every month, pretty much always themed and each one is as uniquely brilliant as the last.
Praise from the Queen of Retail
So you won’t be surprised to hear that Zac Pearmine and Connor Warren, who are responsible for the vintage haven, have been given a great big a tip o’ the hat from none other that the Queen of retail, Mary Portas.
The Velvet Pig was one of three show windows selected by Mary Portas to share on social media as her favourites this week.
Portas: After my own heart
We’ll forgive Mary for making the assumption that The Velvet Pig’s windows are created by a woman (they are not). Here’s what she said:
@thevelvetpigvintage is a woman after my own heart. Her use of mannequins, the quirk, the fun. The fag hanging out of the mouth after a good night out on a zebra. Love it. It was a close call between this – or her Ab Fab window featuring Patsy collapsed in a shopping trolley with a Dior bag.
VP: Fun and exciting displays are an important part of our business
Speaking to News OnTheWight, Zac and Connor said,
“We are very pleased to be recognised by Mary Portas for our window displays.
“We feel that creating fun and exciting displays are an important part of our business, and a great way to liven up the high street.”
Thompson: Never underestimate the power of a good window
Zoe Thompson from Ryde Business Association said,
“Never underestimate the power of a good window… get creative, get colourful.
“If you want people to stop and notice you, spending a bit of time on your window is a great way to do it.”
