At the beginning of February, the Economy, Environment and Transport Scrutiny Committee will be meeting at County Hall (February 3rd at 6pm) to discuss the Isle Of Wight Economic Strategy for Tourism.
This is a public meeting at which questions can be asked, which might useful to know, as we’re sure that the subject matter will be of interest to many of our readers who work in or rely upon the tourism trade.
According to the agenda, Cllr George Brown and Assistant Director for Economic Development, Tourism and Partnerships, John Metcalfe, will make a presentation covering the organisation of tourism on the Isle of Wight; Recent activity in the tourism industry; 2010 promotional activity; Action planning to improve the value of the industry.
In addition, stakeholders in the tourism industry have been invited to attend the meeting, although we’re not sure whether they will be giving presentations or just getting involved in discussion.
These include Kevin Smith – Chief Executive of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry; Dave Groocock – Chairman of the Isle of Wight Tourist Development Board; Simon Dabell and John Allen who are both representatives on the Isle of Wight Tourist Development Board.
For those interested in the relationship between the Isle of Wight Council and the Chamber of Commerce, this Memorandum of Understanding (pdf) will be able to provide some background.
Also on the agenda is a performance report for the Local Area Agreement.
