At Monday night’s Town Council meeting in Ventnor, Rob Reed, the Town Centre Manager gave his monthly report to members of the council.
One of the items Rob reported on was the imminent changes to the Safer Neighbourhood Partnership.
As part of the reorganisation detailed below, the Safer Neighbourhood Partnership will now known as the Community Safety Service.
Rob told us that from 1st December the Town Manager programme will be expanding to the entire Island.
What this means is that Town Centre Managers, Community Support Officers, Dog Wardens and colleagues from the Drug Action Team, CCTV management and ‘Get Sorted’ will join together to form the Community Safety Service.
It’s hoped that by bringing these groups together the programme will benefit from extra knowledge and expertise.
The 10 Town Centre Managers will be joining forces with the 4 Community Support Officers to cover the entire Island which will be split into five areas, but all 14 will now been known as Community Support Officers.
Rob told the meeting that he was looking forward to the new challenge, but questions were raised by members of the Town Council that with a larger area to monitor, whether the TCMs would be able to continue to do the great work that they do.
Rob was also asked whether or not his patch would extend to cover Lowtherville, and although he wasn’t able to categorically confirm this would be the case, he hoped there would be a positive outcome to discussions on the matter.
