road closed and dead end sign

Traffic rerouted in Sandown as Avenue Road closes for two months of bridge works (updated)

Part of a main thoroughfare in Sandown is now closed to traffic until the end of October.

Avenue Road is closed from Tamar Close to Perowne Way until 31st October to allow for engineering works on the track and bridge to be carried out by Network Rail.

As reported last week, rail replacement bus services will operate between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin from Friday 6th September to Sunday 6th October.

Pedestrian access
Pedestrians are still able to walk underneath the bridge.

However, between 27th and 30th September, pedestrian access under the bridge will cease as a crane is installed to remove the old bridge span and old bridge.

Bus routes 2, 3 and 24
Southern Vectis report that diversions will be in place on the 2, 3 and 24 routes because of the road closure on Avenue Road.

All routes will divert via Yaverland and Marshcombe Shute.

Parking restrictions
To accommodate diverted traffic, from today (Monday 2nd Sep) a ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ parking restriction will be introduced, on both sides, in the following lengths of road, until the bridge repairs are compelted:

  • The Fairway, between its junction with Lake Hill and Station Approach;
  • Station Approach, for its entire length;
  • Perowne Way, for its entire length.

Full details of all diversions can be found on the one.network website.
