It has to be said that jubilation was resounding at VentnorBlog HQ when we heard about the forthcoming Transmission gig at Ryde Theatre.
Of course, we realise that Ian Curtis has not be resurrected and transported across the water, but judging by the reviews of this ‘tribute’ band (eek hate that title soo much), you might as well be back in Manchester in the late 70s.
Transmission: The Sound of Joy Division are devoted to recreating the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig and one of us nearly wet our pants when we heard about this gig.
In fact it was only last month that we watched the film, Control (superb and well worth catching if you can) which starred Sam Riley as a brilliant Ian Curtis, so hearing news of being able to close our eyes and imagine we’re actually there is pretty darn good.
I was only about 10 years old at the time, but thanks to my older (and very cool) brother, Joy Division (amongst others) was a staple diet in our household.
If you (like us) can’t wait until next month, cop a load of this in the meantime ….
